PROJECT OVERVIEW: Renovation of this 1960s homestead included extensive site-planning, intricate design development and rigorous construction management. Envisioning a future where they work and play closely with their land, the clients requested the inclusion of a natural swimming pond, fenced in food production area, medicinal plant garden, and propagation greenhouse. Precise topographic alterations paired with a diversity of plantings visually and physically connect the four structures sitting on the property and serve to manage all site runoff. Raised granite planting beds, a rain garden, multiple naturalized planting areas, an extensive meadow with mowed paths, vegetated swales, absorptive wetland, fieldstone walls and goshen stone patios are designed to establish gathering spaces and numerous places to wander and discover the property. Attention to craft and material integrity was paramount for sourcing and designing stone and metal elements in the landscape. Ecological function, aesthetic value, and efficiency and access for seasonal maintenance were all of the utmost importance throughout the design process.
